Overview
Sierra Leone is a very indigent country which does not distribute their income equally throughout working citizens. Like much of Africa, Sierra Leone has many resources that are not taken advantage due to social conflicts, causing a majorly under-developed country. Approximately half of Sierra Leone's population takes part in subsistence agriculture (farming in which people only grow enough on their farms to feed their families and pay the taxes). Alluvial diamond mining plays the largest role in Sierra Leone's economy. It accounts for about half of their exports and brings in the most revenue. The future of this country solely depends on domestic peace and help from other countries. Programs such as Poverty Reduction and Growth Facilities are being established in order to increase economic growth and lower inflation rates. Recently, a spurt of strong political leaders have risen to power and inspired a revival of helpful activities such as rutile mining.
